*Luke 4:16

"And he came to Nazareth where He had been brought up: and, as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up for to read".

*John 7:14

"Now about the midst of the feast Jesus went up into the temple and taught".

• This was the fest of Tabernacles that started on the Sabbath (Saturday) and went on for eight days (to the other Sabbath).


• John says it was the middle of the feast not the middle of the day. This would be Wednesday or Thursday.

*Luke 24:53

"And they worshiped Him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy:

  And were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God".

*Acts 2:46, 47

"And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart". Praising God, and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved".

*Acts 3:1

"Now peter and John went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour" (three in the after noon). And a certain man lame from his mother's womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called beautiful to ask alms of them that entered into the temple".

• Jews had three hours of prayer a day;


• The 1^st was at 9am (believed to be instituted by Abraham)


• The second at 12 noon (believed to be instituted by Issac)


• And this one. The third was 3pm (instituted by Jacob)

The Bible expresses the importance of coming to God's house.

  It shows us very clearly that Jesus as well as His disciples made it a custom .

A custom is a practice that becomes a common thing or a habit to someone.

There are many reasons why we should make it a custom

1. Because it's a command. (De.12:5) "But unto the place which the Lord your God shall choose out of all your tribes to put his name there, even unto his habitation shall ye seek, and thither thou shalt come".


2. You get blessed when you honor God by showing up. (Psalm 84:4) "Blessed are they that dwell in thy house".


3. It's a refuge in times of trouble. (Is. 37:1)


4. It's a place of instruction and prayer. (Mi.4:2)


5. To go to the temple to fellowship.


6. To go to the temple to break bread.


7. To go to the temple for unity's sake (just to be united in one accord)


8. To go to the temple just to worship God (if there is any reason that we come here at all it should be to worship God and thank Him for giving us salvation. Even if you have to crawl out of bead or move a mountain to get to the temple.
