God uses discipline in order to mold us to be like Christ

#1).The authority to discipline in the Church rests on the pastors and leaders of the local body that God has appointed there (2 Tim.4:2-5, Heb.13:17).


#2). In order for Christians and the church to grow it's important to have a good attitude about discipline.

A. Just as natural children need to be disciplined by their parents,God disciplines His children.

B. Bad conduct must be corrected (Luke 17:3-4).

C. Sin must be removed (1 Cor.5:1-13).

D. The opportunity for repentance must be extended
(Matt.18:15-17, Luke 17:4).

E. For restoration(Gal.6:1-5)

F. For edification(2 Cor.10:8)

G. To admonish(2 Thes.3:13-15)


#3). The word gives instructions on how to deal with a sinning brother that doesn't want to change (1 Tim.5:20, 1 Cor.5:1-13).


#4). It is very clear that the reason for discipline in the church is to mold us to be more and more like our Savior.

A. Our attitude must be like the attitude of Christ who made Himself a servant to all.

B. In love (2 Cor.7:2, 2 Cor.2:6-8).

C. Edifying (2 Cor.10:8).

D. Carrying each other's burdens(Gal.6:1-6).
