Exposing the truth of legalism (Parts 1 and 2)

Sunday, February 5, 2006 • Rev. Jose' Gomez Sr. • General
Legalism is running rampant in churches today as in Paul's days. It has no place in the body of Christ.

Walking in obedience and Exposing the spirit of witchcraft and legalism

God want's us to walk in obedience but not blind obedience. That's why He gives us a guide to follow.

*1 Samuel 15:22

"But Samuel replied, "What is more pleasing to the Lord: your burnt offerings and sacrifices or your obedience to his voice? Obedience is far better than sacrifice. Listening to him is much better than offering the fat of rams. 23 Rebellion is as bad as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as bad as worshiping idols".

How Witchcraft Takes Place

1.By  using or by the administering drugs or potions.

2 By sorcery(contacting spirits) or magical arts.

3 By words that cause an irresistible influence or fascination

Galations 3:1,  "O foolish Galatians, who did bewitch you"

You have to be careful with the words you listen to.

Some will tell you what you want to hear and bewitch you.

Witchcraft is a work of the flesh.

The Bible says that: "we are led sometimes by our own lusts".

Idolotry and sorcery is witchcraft and they are included in the list of the works of the flesh in Galatians 5:20.

There are those that use influence of words to sway you from serving God the correct way.

Galatians 3:6,  "I marvel that ye are so quickly removing from him that called you in the grace of Christ unto a different gospel; 7which is not another gospel only there are some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. 8But though we, or an angel from heaven, should preach unto you any gospel other than that which we preached unto you, let him be anathema. 9As we have said before, so say I now again, if any man preacheth unto you any gospel other than that which ye received, let him be anathema.

10For am I now seeking the favor of men, or of God? or am I striving to please men? if I were still pleasing men, I should not be a servant of Christ. , are ye now perfected in the flesh? 4Did ye suffer so many things in vain? if it be indeed in vain.

There Is Only One Good News

*Galations 1:6

6 I am shocked that you are turning away so soon from God, who in his love and mercy called you to share the eternal life he gives through Christ. You are already following a different way 7 that pretends to be the Good News but is not the Good News at all. You are being fooled by those who twist and change the truth concerning Christ.

8 Let God's curse fall on anyone, including myself, who preaches any other message than the one we told you about. Even if an angel comes from heaven and preaches any other message, let him be forever cursed. 9 I will say it again: If anyone preaches any other gospel than the one you welcomed, let God's curse fall upon that person.

-The Galatians were being forced to jewish traditions and rules of men, like some are sometimes in legalists churches and denominations. God wants us to pay more attention to what He says than to traditions and rules of men.

-Paul called these leaders false christians.

Even that question wouldn't have come up except for some so-called Christians there-false ones, really*-who came to spy on us and see our freedom in Christ Jesus. They wanted to force us, like slaves, to follow their Jewish regulations. 5 But we refused to listen to them for a single moment. We wanted to preserve the truth of the Good News for you.

1. Is dancing from God or is the Bible against dancing?

dancing, rhythmic bodily movement, often to music. As a sign of rejoicing, dance had a place in the secular and religious life of ancient Israel.

Dance could be accompanied by song and instrumental music.

Ex 15:20,     her with timbrels and with dancing.

Judges 11:34, him with tambourines and with dancing.

(1 Sam. 18:6), Women customarily greeted the return of victorious soldiers with music and dance  a practice akin to recent bedouin custom.

(Judg. 21:21),  Dancing had a role at the old harvest festival at Shiloh

(Ps. 149:3),  Dance could be performed in the worship of God

Dance is a sign of joy,

The psalmist said; "You have turned for me my mourning into dancing"     Ps 30:11

"Let them praise His name with dancing"     Ps 149:3

Ps 150:4 ,   Praise Him with timbrel and dancing;

The Song of Songs celebrates the dance of the Shulammite (Song of Sol. 6:13).

When he led the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem, David danced before the Lord (2 Sam. 6:14), a performance his wife Michal critisized.

In the nt, dance is a natural part of the celebration of the return of the prodigal son (Luke 15:25).
